The biennial Dissertation Colloquium brings together a select group of doctoral students from diverse institutional and disciplinary backgrounds working on dissertation topics related to the history, theory, and criticism of American architecture, urbanism, and landscape. 

The Buell Conference on the History of Architecture brings together scholars in architectural and urban history to discuss topics in architecture, urbanism, and modernity as broadly understood.

On Friday, October 18, 2013, the Buell Center hosted Dr. Anthony Alofsin, the Roland Gommel Roessner Centennial Professor in Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, to discuss research initiaitives for scholars and practitioners on or related to Frank Lloyd Wright. Dr. Alofsin is a highly esteemed scholar on Wright, having published numerous articles and books on the architect and his work, in addition to having taken a leading role in multiple exhibitions, lectures, and other scholarly endeavours. This discussion, focusing on Dr. Alofsin's 1987 dissertation in Columbia's Art Histroy Department and relating to the recent joint acquisition of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archive by Columbia's Avery Library and MoMA, is part of an ongoing discussion and research initiative at the Buell Center.
