In this first part of a two day symposium organized with the Buell Center at Columbia University, the leaders of the five multidisciplinary teams working on projects for the exhibition Foreclosed: Rehousing the American Dream shared their final proposals for housing and related infrastructures that could catalyze urban transformation, and discussed the principal issues they grappled with throughout the workshop phase and their residencies at MoMA PS1. Experts in fields beyond architecture join the team leaders in discussion. Participants include Jeanne Gang, Principal, Studio Gang Architects with Kari Lydersen, journalist and author, Chicago; Andrew Zago, Principal, Zago Architecture with Robert Somol, Director of the School of Architecture, University of Illinois Chicago; Eunjeong Seong and Michael Bell, Principals, Visible Weather with Eric Belsky, Lecturer of Urban Planning and Design, Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Managing Director of the Joint Center for Housing Studies, Harvard University; Michael Merideth and Hilary Sample, Principals, MOS with David Rosner, Ronald H. Lauterstein Professor of Sociomedical Science and History, Columbia University and Co-Director of the Center for the History & Ethics of Public Health, Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health; Dan Wood and Amale Andraos, Principals, WORKac with Jerry Frug, urban theorist and Louis D. Brandeis Professor of Law, Harvard Law School and Eric Sanderson, landscape ecologist. Barry Bergdoll, The Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and Design at MoMA and organizer of the exhibition, moderates.
